Ebola cases could reach 1.4 million by January 2015

In Matthew 24 Jesus warns us that times will get very difficult here on earth  before His return. I believe we are seeing these things beginning to take place and we need to prepare our hearts for what lies ahead.

Matthew 24:3-14 ( from Biblegateway.com

The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences,[b] and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Ebola cases could reach 1.4m next year

New report suggests Ebola cases could rise in the coming months if urgent measures are not taken to curb the outbreak.

Last updated: 24 Sep 2014 10:15

Increased health measures may prove critical in stopping the predicted spike in Ebola cases [Reuters].
Ebola cases could reach 1.4 million by late January 2015, up from the current total of 5,800, according to a new study by a US medical agency.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report on Tuesday suggesting that Ebola cases could increase to between 550,000 and 1.4 million in four months, based on several factors including how many people are infected by Ebola carriers.
The report questions whether the official number of deaths recorded by the World Health Organisation, 2,800 out of at least 5,800 Ebola cases, has been underreported.
CDC has said it is likely that 2.5 times as many cases, or nearly 20,000, have occurred so far.
"Extensive, immediate actions - such as those already started - can bring the epidemic to... a rapid decline in cases," said CDC in a statement.
Infographic: Just how deadly is Ebola?
Effective measures?
Sierra Leone, one of the five west African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak, is considering another nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of the disease, following a three-day quarantine last week, in which they say they confirmed 130 cases and are awaiting tests on another 70..
President Ernest Bai Koroma said on local radio on Tuesday that he was "mainly satisfied with the whole process, as it has helped reaching more homes and bringing to the fore many sick people and corpses".
The unprecedented nation-wide lockdown saw visits to more than one million households that were given information on the disease.
"It's important for African governments to innovate and find new ways of getting messages out to the people," David Heymann, an Ebola expert, told Reuters news agency.
Ongoing efforts to tackle the disease may hamper its spread. The report released by CDC does not account for measures recently announced by the US.
The US plans to send 3,000 members of its armed forces to the region as well as training 500 healthcare workers per week.
Nonetheless, experts from the WHO said on Tuesday that the outbreak could reach 20,000 recorded cases as soon as early November if rigorous control measures are not put in place.
In August, the WHO predicted it would take until the middle of 2015 for the virus to strike 20,000.
Meanwhile on Monday, the WHO said that outbreaks in Senegal and Nigeria were "pretty much contained".
The following day on Tuesday, Sierra Leone's army announced that it had "sealed off" its borders with Liberia and Guinea in a bid to halt the spread of Ebola.
Looking to the future, WHO's Director of Strategy Christopher Dye said that "this is a bit like weather forecasting. We can do it a few days in advance, but looking a few weeks or months ahead is very difficult."

Are You Ready to Meet Jesus?

A couple of Sundays ago we had a retired preacher speak in our church. He had a good message and I took notes as I listened. I would like to share these notes with you here trusting that you will be blessed as I was.
The text was from Matthew 24.

Are You Ready?

Do you remember May 1948? This is when Israel became a nation state. This is the last prophecy that needed to be fulfilled before the return of Jesus our Saviour.

Are we ready? Jesus Christ is coming back again!
Matthew 24:44  Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

He will come back when you least expect Him. You must be ready - none of us knows when we will die.
Many die young, often accidentally.

This is about eternity - heaven or hell

Some will doubt His return and say all things remain as they were and He hasn't come back yet.

We have no idea how much time we have.
He is patient with you, He is patient with you and is waiting for you to be saved!

Choices and Consequences

There are only two choices
*If you do not choose to follow Christ - the consequence is hell.
*If you choose Christ ( believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved ) you will go to heaven.

Christ will return - no one knows the day or hour.

Hell - the eternal fire
It is hard to imagine and impossible to understand that some would choose to spend eternity in hell fire. This is not just a few years or a few thousand years - hell is forever.
People will spend their life here living in pleasure, seeking wealth, and power, some may even have thought that there would be more to life. Suddenly they are gone, a car crash and gone forever. We ask the question - Was that person ready?  Where will he or she spend eternity?
Prepare now to accept Jesus,
Hell is eternal and no one needs to go there.

1 Corinthians 6: 9-11  Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Notice verse 11 - such were some of you but you were washed.... this is very important. Even though you once lived these sinful lifestyles, you can be saved, you can be washed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! Repent today and turn from your sin, Be saved today!!! Life is different with Jesus in your heart - you can be free from your former life of sin!

You can be assured a place in heaven!

Matthew 24: 37 - 39 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

His coming will be like Noah's time. People scoffed.
Noah and his family were ready and saved!
The road to hell is so wide.
The road to heaven is so narrow.
So many decided to not follow, they are having a good time while Noah is building the ark and preparing for the flood.

Some will be taken up with Jesus while others will be left. Some will be ready and others will not be ready.
If you know Jesus as your Saviour you will go with Him and you will not be left behind.

Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

1) There will be a trumpet call.
We will be changed and we will be gone!
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

2) The Dead in Christ will Rise First -

3) Eternity will begin - We will be with the Lord

We will worship Jesus with the angels.

* The devil is always a loser unless you give him your life.

* Jesus always wins!! Jesus never loses - the devil should have realized this by now.

* WE who are believers in Jesus are winners together with Jesus!!

Please accept Jesus as your Savior today - read more here Be Saved today!

Sunday Sermon Review - Matthew 24

Sunday May 19, 2013

Our church is going through the book of Matthew and so in our sermon series we come to Matthew 24.
Pastor Ben was our speaker. Here is some of what he said:

People love stories and movies about the end of the world. These doomsday stories grab our attention. We are immensely curious about this topic.
In our passage today, Jesus is not trying to satisfy our curiosity. The purpose is for this discussion is stated in verse 4 - And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
He does not want us to be deceived.

Don't be deceived.
This world is broken. There are wars and rumours of wars. Jesus says the temple will be completely destroyed. The temple was the heart of their religion.

Verse 14 - And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
The gospel must be preached to all nations.

Many will claim to be Christ - Messiah is the anointed One of God, who will deliver us and set up His Kingdom.

What are you looking at to save you? What are you depending on?
- politics? or money? or exercise? or looks? or education? or your job?
Do we expect these things to fix our problems?
Jesus will save the world - He claims to be the Savior!
What this world needs is Jesus! We need Jesus! Our hope is in Jesus!!

God steps downs to rescue us.
He offers us forgiveness.
He empowers us to live a new life.
He will never leave us or forsake us.
He will fill us with the power to live with love.

Jesus will return.
He will put things right.
Justice will be done.

While we wait we invite people to follow Jesus!

The text from Matthew 24: 1-30

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

The End of the World ( from Matthew 24 )

In this blog post I want to look at Matthew 24 to see what we can expect as the end of the world draws closer. We need to watch and be prepared as Jesus instructs us to in Matthew 24 verse 42  Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

In Matthew 24 it is recorded that the disciples come to Jesus and ask him "what will be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?" That is exactly our questions today.

I have posted Matthew 24:1-44 at the bottom of our study for your easy reference.

So first off as Jesus answers these questions He tells us to be careful to not be deceived. Jesus says many will come and pretend to be Jesus and thereby deceive many people by this deception. Notice that Jesus uses the word "many" - many will come pretending to be Christ and many will fall for it and be deceived. In order to not be deceived we need to be very familiar with the genuine. That is why it is so very important to stay ever so close to the Lord in prayer and in Bible reading and in our devotion to Him. He can and will keep us in the truth and prevent us being deceived as we put our full trust and weight upon Him.

Next Jesus tells us to be on the lookout for wars and rumours of wars. We are not to be troubled or afraid as we see the countries threatening each other - this only tells us that Jesus is coming soon!! Today there are many threats of war around us - Syria is threatening Israel, North Korea is threatening the US and others, Iran is threatening Israel and so on it goes. So today we do see wars and rumours of wars in reality. BUT Jesus says the end is not yet!!

Jesus tells us that we will see famines, pestilence and earthquakes in various places.  Famines are such as droughts and floods - things that cause the food supply to diminish. Pestilence are diseases and viruses that cause illnesses and disease often spread by birds and animals, but would also include cancer etc.  And then also earthquakes - the earth quaking and shaking. Jesus says these are the beginnings of sorrows -  sorrows that will increase in intensity and frequency just as the labor pains of a mother giving birth to a child.

Next we learn that we must be ready to endure persecution due to our faith in the Lord Jesus. Jesus says that the love of many will grow cold and even family members will betray one another. This is very sad but we need to realize and accept the fact that some of us who are Christians will actually be imprisoned and put to death for our faith. This seems unreal to many of us in such a time as ours but we also know from history that this has happened before and so we need to set our hearts on Jesus now. We need to make the decision that no matter how tough things get, we will not deny our faith. If we must give our life for the Lord, we can rest assured that we will be safe in the arms of Jesus in life and in death. " absent from the body is present with the Lord".

Next we learn that the gospel must first be preached to the entire world before the end of the world is here. I believe I have heard that this has been fulfilled already. Through internet, TV and radio the gospel has gone out to the whole world. As Christians we have been sent out to spread the gospel to the entire world!

Next Jesus goes on to talk about the "abomination of desolation". A prelude phase of this was fulfilled when Antiochus IV desecrated the temple in Jerusalem and set up an idol in it and in 70 AD when Titus destroyed Jerusalem and set up an idol to mock the Jews.  A similar event will occur again as the end of the world draws near when the antichrist enters the temple and sets himself up as god there.
Jesus tells us that these will be horrific times of tribulation. Verse 21 tells us that then shall be great tribulation such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no nor ever shall be. So we can see hard times will come upon this earth before the end of the world is finally here.

Again and again Jesus stresses the fact that there will be many false prophets and false christs as it also says again in verse  24 - For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch that ifit were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. We should take these warnings to heart and be on the alert for false teachers and people in high places who claim to be able to fix every problem.

Jesus says " Behold I have told you before." Jesus tells us these things in advance so that we can be watchful!

So what will it look like when the end is here and Jesus returns? Verse 27 has our answer -
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

We have all seen lightening flash across the sky... so also will the appearing of Jesus be.
Verses 29 and 30 describe the scene : The sun will be darkened, the moon will not give light and the stars will fall - no one will miss seeing this happen!! Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Jesus brings a word of warning to each of us in verses 42 and 44. We are to be alert and watching for his return - verse 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. and verse 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

We do not know the day or hour when Jesus Christ will return and when the end of the world will be here but we can see that day is getting ever closer. What we need to do is to make sure we are walking with the Lord daily, and that we not allow the world and its pleasures to be a distraction to our faith. Be faithful to the Lord in your own personal life and in witnessing to the lost whenever you can. Keep looking up - The King is coming!!

Matthew 24:1-44
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Falling Away of Christians, article from Jan Markel

The Bible teaches that in the last days there will be a falling away. That is that people will walk away from the Christian faith. This is very sad but it seems to be happening in our very day. When we look at what is happening with the Christian church regarding the homosexual issues, we see many a Christian and many a church turn away from the truth of the Bible choosing rather to follow satan and his homosexual movement. The Bible clearly states that homosexuality is sin, and an abomination in the sight of God. God invites the homosexual to turn away from the lifestyle of homosexuality.  Repent of it and in faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin.
The Bible also teaches that in the last days people will be delusioned, unable to believe the truth of the Bible. I want to post an article by Jan Markel ( see article below ) that is worth your time to read but first please take the time to read this portion of Scripture from 2 Thessalonions 2.

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The Foreshadowing

If the strong delusion that is racing across the globe doesn't shock you, something is wrong! Whether it was the ecstasy on thousands of faces in St. Peter's Square waiting with adoring eyes for their new Pope, or the shenanigans in Israel a few weeks ago, it's a scary time. It's both a privilege and a challenge to be born for such a time as this.

The Bible speaks extensively about delusion! It is on overdrive in the last days. And you saw deluded college students in Tel Aviv, Israel on March 21. When Barack Obama suggested that they had to give away more land, the Leftist students applauded for a full minute. Though the land give-away has never worked, I guess this time, they thought that Obama delivering the idea in person in Tel Aviv was the magic trick needed! This time world, just watch, it's a go!

Keep in mind that rockets were raining down on Israel as Obama spoke! Yet, this idea, that is, weakening their own security, was still a good idea to them.

"For I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land," declares the Lord. "For from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for gain, and from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.  They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, 'Peace, peace,' But there is no peace." (Jeremiah 6:12-14)

An American president screamed, "Peace! Peace! Give up more land for it! The hour is at hand. I have the magical formula. Hear me out. This time, I guarantee, it will work."

Could you imagine with me the Antichrist speaking to Israelis as he will some day, just like this. He will offer Israel a peace covenant in a manner similar to this. Was the March 21 speech a dress rehearsal? A dry run? I am not suggesting that Barack Obama is the Antichrist as we don't know who it will be. But a man talking about peace journeyed to a land occupied by people who long for it, although they haven't a clue how to bring it about other than land exchanges.

Keep in mind that in the Palestinian territories, there are streets, public squares, summer camps, high schools, and even a kindergarten named after suicide bombers and other mass murderers. So much for the notion that if only Israelis would care about Arab kids, peace would be possible.

Israelis have wanted nothing more than peace and security for all the children. That's why they accepted the 1947 U.N. partition of British Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state. Unfortunately, the Arabs said no. To this day, the Palestinians have rejected every peace offer that leaves a Jewish state standing.

Since we're smack-dab in the midst of these incredible last days, how many e-mails does this ministry get wailing that churches will no longer address the subject? Well, legions of e-mails and even calls.

Back to my strong delusion commentary. The Bible foretells through Paul to the Thessalonian believers that in the last days, a time in church history would come when God would send "strong delusion." In like manner, Paul even warned Timothy that in the last days, there would be a group of demons who would infiltrate the churches with false and mixed doctrine, capable of even causing some to, "depart from the faith" and give heed to devilish false teachings.

God instigates this. It's not just the increase of evil that brings this on. Yes, Satan ratchets up his evil in the last days, but God sends the delusion. I think He gets mighty disgusted and just sends the delusion as a judgment! He washes His hands and turns His back.

You don't want to be on the back side of God as He does this. Those Israeli students were on the back side of God and they were blinded.

Our times are way too perilous to be this unprotected.
