Jesus tells us to be a people who are alert and watching what is going on and prepare for future events. In Matthew 24: Jesus uses the fig tree to illustrate that we can know what we have to look forward to. If we see a fig tree putting forth leaves we can know summer is near. Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
This reminds me of the message I heard on the radio this morning on Turning Point with Pastor David Jeremiah. He was discussing the moral decline in America and where it fits in with Bible prophecy. What caught my attention was when he explained that there is a pattern that nations follow and history has shown that it takes approximately 200 years for a nation to move through the steps coming out of bondage and ending up in bondage once again. He mentioned Rome, Greece and Babylon having collapsed due to greed. So I wanted to share the list of the steps that David Jeremiah listed and the question he asked was - In which of the stages listed are we presently living? He suggested it would be in the bottom half of the list.
So here are the steps he listed:
1) come out of bondage to
2) spiritual faith to
3) great courage to
4) liberty to
5) abundance to
6) complacency to
7) apathy to
8) dependance to
9) back to bondage
